Italcementi: three decades of collaboration

Logo Italcementi

On 8 February 1864 the Scanzo kiln fired its first batch of hydraulic cement. The quality of cement from the company that would be named Italcementi in 1927 led it to leadership in Italy, from the bridge over the Adda to Venice's Santa Lucia station, from the Suez Canal to the Pirelli Tower.

Since 2010 Italcementi has upgraded its main cement plants to Best Available Technologies, revamping Calusco d'Adda (BG), Matera and Rezzato-Mazzano (BS). It has filed over 60 patents, including the transparent cement of the Italian pavilion at Expo 2010 Shanghai and the biodynamic cement of Palazzo Italia at Expo 2015.

Since 2016 it has been part of the Heidelberg Materials group. In Italy it runs 10 full-cycle cement plants, a special products plant, 10 grinding centres, 112 concrete plants and 13 aggregate quarries.

The project

For over 30 years Mozzanica has supported Italcementi's Italian plants with maintenance of systems and extinguishers.

Over time Mozzanica's role has expanded to building plant-wide hydrant networks, complete with pumping stations and water reserves.

Mozzanica designers and installers have laid kilometres of hydrant networks at the Colleferro, Rezzato and Calusco d'Adda plants. At Calusco in particular, the teams built a 3 km network served by a 1,200 m³ water reserve and a 450 m³/h UL/FM diesel pump.
