Smoke and heat detection systems

Smoke detectors and heat detectors are the main systems for early detection of some types of fires.

The first one detects smoke through an optical sensor that can "see" the smoke particles from fires without flame, ideal for detecting the presence of flames.

Heat detectors use heat-sensitive sensors to detect the heat from the fire. They are activated when predetermined thresholds are exceeded and/or in the face of rapid increases in temperature per unit of time (suitable for environments where smoke would not be detectable due to natural levels of smoke, vapours or dust, such as in kitchens).

Technological evolution is providing increasingly "smart" detectors that can perform better in terms of detecting and discriminating the signals, reducing, among other things, the number of false alarms.
