Mozzanica stands for Quality

Process management systems, products and skills, for quality and fire safety

John Ruskin, English writer and painter, used to say that "Quality is never an accident. It is always the result of intelligent effort".

Mozzanica & Mozzanica believes that no task can be tackled without the right methodology and the right directives.

Furthermore, we have chosen to orient ourselves towards a high risk market and therefore to equip ourselves with a whole series of systems to regulate our business flows.

Mozzanica is...

Over 30 years of experience dedicated to fire protection

Fire sprinkler systems

Sprinkler. A highly reliable system

Sprinkler systems are still today the most common and effective fire protection systems used. With millions of installations around the world, statistics demonstrate that less than 3 heads are sufficient to control 50% of fires and 9 are enough to control over 80%.

Even if the purpose of the sprinkler system is not to directly protect the people involved but to control the fire, preventing it from spreading and allowing the emergency teams to intervene safely and effectively, the effectiveness in terms of occupant protection is very high.

Deluge systems

Deluge and water spray systems use water in large quantities and, unlike sprinklers, simultaneously over the entire protected space.

The functioning of a flood system is theoretically very simple: a network of empty pipes feeds open nozzles built in such a way to distribute water over the entire protected surface. Depending on the nozzles chosen, the water flow can be spread evenly or can be directed (in this case they are called water spray systems) - through appropriate deflectors - with a particular shape and speed in order to obtain an effective range to target particular points of the protected area.

For the protection of oil storage, can be used high speed nozzles or with an “emulsifying” effect, which the size of the drops, their ability to penetrate the flames and the shape of the jet, allows the water to strike the oil that is still not burning, creating an oil-water emulsion that removes available fuel from the fire.

Water Mist systems

A fire needs fuel, heat and comburent. The Water Mist system acts on the first two elements, generating a very fine water mist with very small drops (one tenth or a hundredth mm diameter).

By absorbing heat, the drops, expanding by heating, remove energy from the fire, hinder the contribution of comburent and absorb radiant heat. The water mists have been used since 1880s, but it was only a hundred years later that water mist technology became established and used as a fixed extinguishing system.

CO2 systems

A CO2 system does not cause damage to structures, furnishings or protected assets and does not leave residues or decomposition products. Carbon dioxide is naturally present in the air and has no application and cost limitations that may be related to the use of other gaseous extinguishing agents. CO2 systems have a good gas penetration speed into the areas to protect and are effective on a wide range of flammable and combustible materials.

Typically used in closed rooms, these systems can also be employed in open environments, exploiting localised applications and leveraging on the discharge time and the dynamics of carbon dioxide which, denser and heavier by 50% than the surrounding air, can create blankets that saturate the protected spaces.

Inergen Gas Fire-fighting systems

The Montreal Protocol, which entered into force on 1 January 1989, banned substances that threaten the ozone layer (including halogenated extinguishers) and prompted the search for new environmentally-friendly agents - clean agents.

All clean agent systems act on the oxygen available for the combustion reaction by diluting it, thanks to the difference between the various specific gas weights and to the different chemical-physical structures, increasing the heat capacity of the atmosphere contained in the protected volume, which hinders heat propagation.

Inergen, a mixture of nitrogen argon and carbon dioxide, was one of the first clean agents to enter the market and has always represented the most effective system compatible with the presence of persons in the occupied areas.

Foam Fire-fighting systems

Water, the most economical and effective extinguisher, is inadequate or even harmful in the case of flammable liquids. For this reason, foam extinguishing systems have been developed.

Oxigen reduction systems

A substantial difference between caution and prevention is that the second one must act continuously. Maintaining a constant hypoxic atmosphere, where oxygen does not exceed 15% of the mixture, requires to act simultaneously on many aspects. First of all, it is necessary to have devices that act on the present gases, segregating some and increasing the concentration of others; in turn these systems must be guided by analysis and control devices that continuously check the air parameters. But this is not enough; building waterproofing techniques are required for the premises together with air exchange systems that allow "perimeter control".

Pumping stations

Risk protection guarantee

An extremely important system, which must guarantee the correct functioning of all the slave systems. Installing a new pumping station requires careful study, appropriate risk assessment and correct analysis of the customer's situation. Technology and engineering must combine for the best result.

Ordinary Maintenance

Each fire-fighting system is integrated into a more complex safety management system that includes procedures, interactions between different systems with different technologies and capable of operating in emergency situations.

From this point of view, choosing a fire-fighting service means choosing more than a simple maintenance technician but, a trusted consultant to which entrust the maintaining of regulatory compliance, a fundamental and substantial act to adapt the systems to the state of the art and to the performance required by the fire risk to protect.

The Mozzanica and Mozzanica Business Service line consists of the following specializations

  • Fire Fighting Systems maintenance;
  • Fire Fighting Equipment maintenance;
  • Small Job

Digital solutions

Mozzanica & Mozzanica introduces in the sector new innovative digital solutions for advanced maintenance that are able to combine normal maintenance activities with "IoT” (Internet of Things) systems, for the integrated management of safety, choosing to operate according to Company 4.0 dictates.

Fire detection and alarm signalling systems

Initially, it was the sprinkler systems that detected a fire with the a thermal element which breaking that, once a certain temperature was reached, made it possible to intervene on the fire source and alert the staff via a hydraulic bell.

With the advent of technology and safety engineering, it is now essential to detect the fire start early to protect the safety of people and the rapid intervention of rescue teams.

Detection systems for explosive and hazardous mixtures

Where the formation of a dangerous explosive atmosphere is envisaged, it is possible to adopt a series of measures whose purpose is to prevent or limit formation of the same. The same applies to the formation of toxic atmospheres.

One of these measures is the monitoring of concentrations around installations or storage points by means of gas detection systems which, if necessary, automatically activate further protection measures.

Professional services for fire pumps

The Fire Pump is the heart of a Fire-Fighting system so it is of fundamental importance to minimise the frequency of malfunction.

For this purpose, the Mozzanica and Mozzanica Service business line makes available to its customers, in addition to the engine inspection of diesel motor pumps, the following activities:

  • Thermographic analysis
  • Vibration analysis
  • Motor-pump alignment analysis
  • Head-flow performance curve analysis

The aim of these inspections is to act in advance on potential causes of faults.

Fire-fighting and compartmentalisation equipment

Prevention is the best solution; the fire-fighting strategy also includes aspects that may at first sight appear to be less relevant than the large-scale highly technological systems.

A good practice, stimulated by a sign, rather than a fire-resistant division can do a lot to prevent a fire from igniting or, at worst, from spreading.

Personal protection equipment and life-saving products

The third category of PPE includes all the tools capable of protecting the worker from serious or permanent damage to health and from the risk of death.

Consultancy and training

Mozzanica has always worked alongside its customers as consultants and designers to provide support for fire prevention planning, to form emergency teams and to ensure the maintaining of an adequate SGSA (Fire Safety Management Service).
